From Financial Fate to Destiny: Actualizing Your Potential
What does it actually mean to realize your financial potential?
Potential is a word that gets thrown around a lot in the personal development world and can get watered down.
But it’s a question I’ve been exploring through my work with clients over the past two decades, because I’m convinced that potential isn’t ultimately about what we can accomplish.
It’s about how fully we’re willing to inhabit who we are and what we are doing on this planet.
Entrepreneurs come to me because they want to realize their financial potential in business.
Couples come to me because they want to realize their financial potential as a partnership.
They want to create greater freedom, build wealth, or finally move through patterns that are baffling and frustrating.
And while we certainly work with the practical pieces like budgeting, cash flow, profitability, financial strategy, and pricing, the reality is that financial potential is never just a question of strategy.
There is a deeper question waiting to be answered:
Who are you actually capable of becoming in this world?
And perhaps even more importantly:
What happens when you stop trying to become what others have told you? When you stop resisting what your true path is actually about?
Potential Is Personal
I’ve been exploring these fascinating questions through the lens of astrology, which is a very powerful and insightful, ancient framework to look at human potential.
I don’t see astrology as a rigid prediction of what will happen.
I see it more as a mathematical language for understanding the particular terrain we're working with on our path: our natural tendencies, our gifts, our challenges, our developmental edges, and some of the places where we’re likely to experience friction.
Some things may come naturally to you that require considerable effort for someone else.
There may also be qualities that life keeps asking you to develop in order to meet the obstacle course of life.
Typically this is where Saturn is requiring you to grow and mature before you can succeed.
There are limitations too, and I think those are worth understanding rather than spending our lives trying to just overcome them.
As humans, we seem to hate limitations.
But what if they're the only way we can be who we really are, versus being just like someone else?
Transforming Fate into Destiny, by Robert Ohotto, is one of my favorite astrology books that goes deep into this concept, and why I also love Robert Greene’s idea of transforming fate into destiny
He explains:
Fate is the hand of cards we’ve been dealt.
Destiny is how we learn to leverage that hand.
Because your financial potential isn’t separate from who you are, like something "out there" you're trying to achieve.
Rather, it's the expression of money and success in your life that would make you the most happy and fulfilled.
It emerges through your particular combination of gifts, psychology, circumstances, values, capacity, and willingness to expand.
The Problem With Borrowing Our Identity
This question of potential also connects directly to what I shared recently about LAVA: Love, Attention, Validation and Acceptance.
When we don’t have a sufficiently grounded relationship with our own identity, we naturally look outward for evidence that we're okay.
A new project can tell us we’re valuable.
A certain revenue number can tell us we’re successful.
A solid client roster can tell us we’re wanted.
A high net worth can tell us we are secure.
Or a low net worth can tell us that we belong.
And there’s nothing inherently wrong with enjoying any of those things.
The problem begins when they become responsible for maintaining our sense of self.
Because money is inherently cyclical.
And if our identity has been resting too heavily on external evidence, an ordinary money challenge can become an existential one.
We haven’t only lost the money, client, relationship or opportunity.
We’ve lost the thing that was telling us who we were.
This is why LAVA can have a “hungry ghost” quality.
If what we’re really seeking is an internal sense of wholeness, no amount of success can permanently satisfy the hunger.
There will always be another revenue goal, another level of visibility, another client, another relationship that seems capable of finally giving us the feeling we’re looking for.
But the goalpost keeps moving.
Wholeness Changes the Way You Build
This is where I find the combination of astrology and financial hypnosis particularly effective.
Astrology can offer a framework for understanding identity.
It can help us recognize qualities that may have been present in us all along, including aspects of ourselves we may have suppressed, misunderstood, or spent years trying to compensate for.
There is something very liberating about being able to see yourself more clearly and say:
This is actually who I am and I have a map that shows me.
These are my gifts and I can own them.
These are my challenges and I can embrace them with understanding.
These are my natural inclinations and they serve a greater purpose.
This is what matters most to me and why.
And then, rather than continually seeking permission or confirmation from the outside world, we begin to inhabit that identity ourselves.
That’s where financial hypnosis can be so powerful.
Much of what keeps us from fully expressing our potential isn’t a lack of intellectual understanding.
You may already know that you are intelligent, valuable, creative, deserving, or worthy of prosperity.
Knowing something consciously doesn’t necessarily mean your subconscious mind has integrated it.
Hypnosis gives us a way to work with that deeper conditioning, and the internal patterns that have been running our experience of who we are.
It helps us to clarify if these are beliefs we’ve taken on, or fate is asking us to transform them.
From Fate to Destiny
Fate is what we inherit.
Destiny is what we create with what we’ve been given.
And I think this is where financial transformation becomes so much more interesting than simply making more money.
The real opportunity is to offer ourselves in an authentic way, be of genuine service to others on the planet, and thrive simultaneously.
That may be a small handful of people or millions.
The numbers don’t matter.

We can look at both sides of the equation: the practical financial structures that support growth and the deeper patterns of identity, conditioning, and money psychology that can influence how much you’re willing and able to create, receive, and hold.
