When Purpose and Profit Move Together [New Episode on the Financial Therapy Podcast]
What would your career or business look like if it were free from outside expectations and external standards of success?
When you pause and really feel into it, what do wealth and success truly mean to you when they’re measured by alignment, flow, and integrity, rather than status, comparison or identity?
And finally…
What if your business could be designed around how you want your work in the world to feel?
That question has been my compass for years, and it’s at the heart of my recent conversation with Rick Kahler on The Financial Therapy Podcast on my episode, What if you built your career around being aligned and in a state of flow?
Back when I was studying accounting at Portland State University, I knew in my bones that endless hours behind a desk doing taxes wasn’t the life for me.
But I also knew working with money was a potent subject with endless facets that would be forever interesting to me.
Especially when it came to the psychology of it and the manifestationof it, without the influence of greed or desperation.
So I did something unusual.
I decided to treat my career as a grand manifestation project!
I asked myself:
What’s the best outcome I can create with this education?
And how can I craft the best version of it, based on my current mindset?
I want to highlight that didn't mean I had fully overcome my scarcity thinking, but rather I was reaching for what I felt was a vision beyond where I was at the time.
That approach carried me into Deloitte, one of the Big Six firms at the time, where I learned everything I could about money, business, and profitability in a business environment.
Even with that “dream job,” I felt the pull toward something deeper.
I craved work that was alive, creative, and fully aligned with my values.
That hunger opened bigger questions:
What kind of work feels fascinating?
How can money, psychology, spirituality, and service all belong together?
What would it mean to build a path where wealth and purpose fuel each other?
My journey took me through my own money unraveling.
I was the accountant who could guide companies through millions while secretly struggling with debt, overspending, and scarcity patterns.
That humbling chapter led me into Debtors Anonymous and Underearners Anonymous, where I began to see money as so much more than numbers.
Two 12-step programs that are said to be the masters degree in the 12-step world.
Money suddenly became about deeper patterns of self-worth, survival, and fear woven into daily choices.
That’s where everything shifted and I realized:
Money carries deep meaning and sacred power.
Beyond the practical use, it's a practice of working with the small details while holding an expanded vision for the future.
Under-earning is rooted in hidden subconscious beliefs and patterns that can be overcome. But facing and coming to accept the patterns that are playing out is the key.
True wealth grows from alignment with values, and it becomes real through micro actions that create continous improvements, step by step by step.
From there, alignment and intention became my North Star, and it’s still how I build and lead today.
For visionary business owners and creatives like you, this is what happens when you choose to create, build, and lead from inner financial alignment:
Your revenue grows in ways that feel natural and sustainable.
Old ceilings lift as your subconscious money patterns shift.
Your financial systems and your psychology work together, creating profit and nourishment.
You stop performing success and deeply listen to what the next right step is, following it implicitly and not wavering.
This episode is a candid look at how I wove money wisdom, psychology, and spirituality into a career that feels like my authentic self, and how you can bring that same clarity into your own business.
